2018 Southwest Orientation & Mobility Association Conference
2018 SWOMA main conference will be held at Region 13, Education Service Center (ESC) on Friday and Saturday in Austin, TX. The Pre-Conference will be held on Thursday at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Both ACVREP and SBEC credit are available for all sessions! A total of 13.5 hours is possible for the entire conference

Registration Fees:
• Professional and Family Member Early Registration - $150
• University Students and Paraprofessionals Early Registration - $100

LODGING: The deadline to book your hotel reservation at the Crowne Plaza Austin hotel is set for October 19th. You can book your reservation online or contact the hotel directly at (800) 227-6963. Be certain to identify yourself as part of the TSBVI SWOMA Conference so that you can book at the conference rate.

This indoor session will look at strategies for propelling the chair with and without the long white cane, strategies to determine if the student is travelling at a safe speed, stopping the chair in an emergency, and navigating tight spaces like doorways or ramps.

Quick and Easy Methods for Repairing and Modifying Canes

Session Description:
Participants will learn how to repair canes without using chemicals or solvents. This process can be completed in any office area without the need for costly ventilation, chemicals or cleaning systems. The session will also discuss how to set-up a cane repair station that requires very little space. Techniques to be demonstrated include removing/replacing worn grips, restringing folding canes with and without grips, converting a folding cane to use slip-on tips, using an "arc extension" as a transition tool for students and/or clients unable to maintain appropriate frontal protection during travel and much more.
