Mentor Center - April 2023

Learning Objectives:
• Observe visually impaired students in a variety of learning environments.
• Keep a record of materials and strategies observed.
• Apply strategies and materials to their own students.
• Connect theory learned in coursework to actual situations in the field.

Audience: Protégés matched with a TVI and/or COMS mentor through the TSBVI Mentor Program and Texas students currently enrolled in the Texas Tech University or Stephen F. Austin State University VI/O&M programs who do not have a mentor.

Important Session Information:


The Mentor Program funds:
• Hotel costs for two nights.
• Reimbursement for up to $150.00 for airfare. This applies only to participants who live more than 250 miles from Austin. Must have prior approval from the Mentor Coordinator. If approved, you will make your own flight reservation and show your ticket receipt upon arrival to TSBVI.
• Dinner on Sunday evening; lunch on Monday and Tuesday.

To be eligible to attend, you must fit one of these categories:
• You are a student currently working on VI or O&M certification in Texas.
• You are a protégé matched with a mentor through the TSBVI Mentor Program.

Mentor Center attendance is limited to two times for any individual:
• Once as a student with TTU/SFA who does not yet teach as a TVI or COMS.
• Once as a protégé matched with a mentor.
